Q. Is this a functional smoke detector?
No this is not a functional smoke detector - is it only a hidden camera recording device.
Q. Where are the video files stored?
Video files are saved to up to 32GB of internal memory that can be viewed or played on any PC or Mac computer.
Q. How does the smoke detector mount to the wall?
The smoke detector includes a standard mounting plate that allows you to mount it to a wall.
Q. Where is the best place to mount the camera, on a ceiling or a wall?
The pinhole camera looks directly out from the camera, so ideally the camera should be placed on a wall. It can be placed on a ceiling, however the camera will look directly straight down.
Q. What recording modes are available?
With the included remote you can choose between motion-activated recording as well as continuous recording.
Q. Can I view the playback on my Mac computer?
Yes the videos can be played back on both PC and Mac computers.
Q. Does the smoke detector camera record audio too?
No it does not - due to US law, covert/hidden devices like this one cannot record audio.
Q. If I put the camera in motion activation mode, will that extend the battery life?
When the camera is in motion activation mode, it uses the same amount of battery whether it is recording or not, because the camera still has to be on and looking for motion.
Q. How do I charge the device?
Use the included wall charger to recharge the internal battery.
Q. Do I need any special video player to watch the playback?
You'll be able to use any standard media player to watch the video playback, however we recommend using VLC Media Player as it has all of the latest video drivers and codecs built in.
